Description

Open textbooks can help alleviate the burden of textbook costs for students and provide faculty with fully-customizable course materials. Open textbooks allow instructors to tailor course materials to specific learning outcomes and inclusion and equity goals. This asynchronous online workshop will introduce you to open textbooks and allow you to explore existing open textbooks available for use in your courses. After this workshop is completed, you will be eligible to write a review of an open textbook and receive a $200 stipend. The stipend is funded by VIVA, Virginia's Academic Library Consortium.

Objectives

At the completion of this workshop, participants will:

  • Understand barriers to student success
  • Identify priorities for evaluating quality course materials

Dates

This asynchronous online workshop can be completed any time between May 10, 2021 and July 9, 2021.

It will take approximately 90 minutes to complete.

Application

Applications will be accepted now through Thursday, July 1, 2021 and applicants should expect a response within a week of submission.

Reviews will be due Monday, August 23, 2021
