Come explore research-based approaches for using group work in asynchronous and synchronous classes. These approaches will be grounded in principles of project-based learning, team-based learning (TBL), and process oriented guided inquiry learning (POGIL). Participants will learn how to use groups in a variety of contexts, including discussion as groups in Canvas and breakout rooms in Zoom.

Objectives

Participants will

  • Identify the teaching functions of groupwork in an online environment
  • Explore the setup of asynchronous (on Canvas) and synchronous (in Zoom) group workspaces
  • Evaluate the use of these online group workspaces for individual classes
