Description

In a quick transition to online learning, the availability of technology and resources for teaching and learning sets challenges as well as opportunities to discover active learning strategies. In this online virtual session, participants will learn strategies for using FlipGrid and Canvas to support reflective and group learning activities. FlipGrid, a video-based discussion board, can help keep communication alive as well as supporting reflective learning. Participants will gain practical tips of using Flipgrid from the instructor and student perspectives, in integration with a Canvas course site and group activities. 

Objectives

Participants will be able to 

  • Set up and manage a classroom Flipgrid discussion board.
  • Gain experience using Flipgrid from the student and instructor perspective. 
  • Develop recorded offline video responses for later uploading. 
  • Integrate Flipgrid in a Canvas course.
  • Explore strategies for utilizing Flipgrid as a discussion and communication tool for group activities. 
  • Explore group learning activity options in Canvas.

Online Synchronous Format

This is an online virtual workshop synchronously hosted through WebEx, which means that a participant can join it online from home, office, or any location with stable Internet access and a headset with a microphone. 

Application sharing will be used so that you will be able to see my screen. AND to help you answer practical questions, you may be asked to share your Canvas site being developed, I recommend we participate with a standard computer of PC or Mac.

**It is vital for a test BEFORE the workshop as we will count on your audio connection to ensure the success of this event.

For the optimal effect of communication at this virtual workshop, the recommendation is to find a headset with a microphone or an earpod as your phone is equipped with. Plugging these audio devices to your computer before you start the WebEx meeting below AND select "Connect with Computer Audio" will ensure audio quality.
