In an era where data drives decision-making across industries, understanding and visualizing data are essential skills. This workshop presentation introduces the fundamentals of data literacy, equipping participants to find, assess, and ethically use data. Additionally, attendees will explore data visualization literacy basics, learning to present data in impactful ways. By the end of the session, participants will gain practical strategies to navigate misinformation, evaluate data quality, and create visuals that tell compelling, data-driven stories.

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

  • Define the core concepts of data literacy and its importance in today’s world.
  • Explore data quality issues, particularly in online sources, and how to assess the integrity of data.
  • Gain an introduction to basic data organization practices for storing and using data effectively.
  • Understand the principles of data ethics and how to make responsible, ethical decisions when handling data.
  • Learn the essentials of data visualization literacy and best practices for creating visuals that communicate data effectively
