Day of Community Conversations Advising Conference

All JMU faculty and staff who serve in an advising function are invited to attend the Day of Community Conversations Advising Conference at JMU. This development opportunity is hosted by the JMU Advising Resource Collaboration (ARC) Network and co-sponsored by University Advising, the Center for Faculty Innovation, JMU Libraries, and the College of Business Advising & Support Center.

This day is an opportunity to share, celebrate, and learn as a community of dedicated advising professionals and elevate the function of advising at JMU. The conference will be a one-day event including a panel discussion, concurrent sessions, and other activities with the goal of enhancing advising knowledge and community for faculty and staff while also increasing the effectiveness of our advising programs.

The theme of the conference this year is “Connect, Advocate, Elevate: Strengthening Campus and Student Relationships”. Within this broad theme, we hope to bring together advisors to facilitate conversations about topics of interest and share best practices and expertise relating to relationship building and strengthening in advising. Our intent is to create a space that allows advisors to critically explore the ways in which strong relationships with campus partners and students can enhance their work and support student success.

Conference Goals:

  • Elevate the conversation about academic advising through the exploration of the theories, content, tools, and context that informs the work and impact of academic advising on campus and beyond.
  • Create an inclusive space to share and celebrate innovative advising practices.
  • Foster community among advisors in order to share practices, information, and promote awareness of what’s going on and support professional development.
