Understanding Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Event box
Join this new workshop to explore the complex and ever-changing world of artificial intelligence (AI). Gain a thorough understanding of AI, starting from its roots and tracing its current influence across multiple industries. Learn about the different types of AI, focusing on generative AI (gAI), and explore how machine learning (ML) powers AI.
In this session, we will cover ethical considerations, showcase various AI tools like ChatGPT and Dall-E, and explore AI's impact, including its practical integration into tools used at JMU, such as Copilot and Gradescope. This will give you a hands-on understanding of how AI is being used in real-world scenarios including here at JMU.
This workshop is designed for AI newcomers and early adopters. It will include informative lectures, but it will also foster interactive discussions and a showcase of AI tools, ensuring that you are actively involved in the learning process.
Objectives
By the time we complete this workshop, you will be able to:
- Describe the origins of and critical milestones in AI development.
- Explain generative AI (gAI), its techniques, and its impact on creating new content.
- Discuss the ethical implications of AI in areas such as information sourcing, image creation, authorship, and algorithmic bias.
- More confidently explore generative and non-generative-AI tools
- Discuss the implications of AI on industry practices and future technological developments.
