A Day of Community Conversations Advising Conference

All JMU faculty and staff who serve in a student advising function are invited to attend this development opportunity hosted by the JMU Advising Resource Collaboration (ARC) Network and co-sponsored by University Advising, JMU Libraries, the JMU Center for Faculty Innovation, the JMU College of Business, and the JMU College of Education.

This day is an opportunity to share, celebrate, and learn as a community of dedicated advising professionals and elevate the function of advising at JMU. The conference will be a one-day event including a panel discussion, concurrent sessions, and other activities with the goal of enhancing advising knowledge and community for faculty and staff while also increasing the effectiveness of our advising programs.  With the evolving culture of technology in advising, this year the focus of the conference is technology-enabled advising. Within this broad theme, we hope to facilitate conversations about topics of interest and share best practices and expertise relating to technology-enabled advising. Our intent is to create a space that allows advisors to critically explore the ways in which technology can enhance their work, create balance in their workload, and support student success.

Conference Goals:

  • Elevate the conversation about academic advising through the exploration of the theories, content, tools, and context that informs the work and impact of academic advising on campus and beyond.
  • Create an inclusive space to share and celebrate innovative advising practices.
  • Foster community among advisors in order to share practices, information, and promote awareness of what’s going on and support professional development.
