DESCRIPTION:Learn more about open access with JMU colleagues in a casual 
 setting. Feel free to bring your lunch\; we will provide cookies. \n\nWe 
 will view a recorded conference presentation\, “Implementing Open Science 
 Principles through Research Partnerships\,” and have some time for 
 discussion afterward. The presentation is from the September 2019 NISO 
 Virtual Conference\, Sustaining Openness: Ensuring the Long Term Viability 
 of Open Science\, OER and More. This Open Access Week event is hosted by 
 the JMU Libraries’ Council on Diversity\, Equity\, and Inclusion and the 
 JMU Libraries’ Scholarly Communication Steering Committee. Please contact

 questions.\n\nConference presentation description by the presenter\, Judy 
 Ruttenberg:\n\nThrough its Scholars and Scholarship program\, the 
 Association of Research Libraries (ARL) is working on several initiatives 
 to apply the recommendations in the U.S. National Academies of Sciences\, 
 Engineering\, and Medicine’s “Open Science by Design.” These involve 
 critical partnerships with scholarly and learned societies\; academic 
 leadership\, through the Association of American Universities (AAU) and the 
 Association of Public and Land-grant Universities (APLU)\; and within 
 institutions to advance research integrity as scholarship and information 
 transform. This talk will highlight the principles behind these efforts\, 
 and the opportunity presented by bringing together scholars\, societies\, 
 research libraries\, library publishers\, university presses\, and 
 investors. Ultimately\, the value of research is judged on its integrity\, 
 its dissemination and reuse. As collaborative partners\, research libraries 
 are integral to knowledge creation and barrier-free and enduring access to 
 information. The paper highlights emerging roles and types of institutional 
 partnerships as research libraries transform with the changing conditions 
 of scholarship.
