Universal Design is a broad theory with specific applications in creating accessible academic courses. This class will provide an introduction to Universal Design both as a tool for teaching and a hands-on approach to formatting content. We will look in depth at accessible design features in Canvas and introduce a check list to use when creating or updating Canvas classes.

Objectives

  • Consider techniques to utilize Universal Design in your class design
  • Explore how to leverage Canvas tools for accessibility and Universal Design
  • Identify a check list of simple yet crucial accessibility components to incorporate into your course design
